Data Processing by Social Networks
We maintain publicly accessible profiles on social networks. The individual social networks we use are listed below.
Social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube are generally able to comprehensively analyze your user behavior when you visit their website or a website with integrated social media content, such as like buttons or advertising banners. Visiting our social media presences triggers numerous data processing operations relevant to data protection. Specifically:
If you are logged into your social media account and visit our social media presence, the operator of the social media portal may associate this visit with your user account. In some circumstances, your personal data may also be collected even if you are not logged in or do not have an account with the respective social media portal. In this case, such data collection may occur, for example, through cookies stored on your device or by collecting your IP address.
Using the data collected in this way, the operators of the social media portals may create user profiles in which your preferences and interests are stored. This allows interest-based advertising to be displayed to you both within and outside the respective social media presence. If you have an account with the respective social network, interest-based advertising may be displayed on all devices on which you are or have been logged in.
Please also note that we cannot track all processing operations carried out on the social media portals. Depending on the provider, additional processing operations may therefore be carried out by the operators of the social media portals. Details can be found in the terms of use and privacy policies of the respective social media portals.
Purposes of Processing
We use our social media profiles in particular for the following purposes:
Public relations and corporate communication, presentation of our products, services, and career opportunities, communication with prospective customers, customers, and applicants, as well as reach analysis and statistics provided by the respective platforms.
Legal Basis
Our social media profiles and the purposes stated above serve to ensure the most comprehensive and up-to-date online presence possible. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The analysis processes initiated by the social networks may be based on different legal bases, which must be specified by the operators of the social networks, such as consent within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Joint Controllership
Where we jointly determine the purposes and means of certain data processing operations together with the operator of the respective social media platform, in particular when providing page statistics, reach analyses, or so-called insights, joint controllership exists within the meaning of Art. 26 GDPR. In these cases, you may generally exercise your data subject rights both against us and against the respective platform operator.
Please note that we have only limited influence on data processing carried out by the operators of the social media platforms. Many processing operations, in particular profile creation, advertising delivery, cross-platform analysis, and data transfers within the respective corporate groups, are carried out by the platform operators under their own responsibility. Details can be found in the privacy notices of the respective platform.
Retention Period
The data collected directly by us through the social media presence will be deleted from our systems as soon as you request deletion, revoke your consent to storage, or the purpose for storing the data no longer applies. Stored cookies remain on your device until you delete them. Mandatory statutory provisions, in particular retention periods, remain unaffected.
We have no influence over the retention period of your data that is stored by the operators of the social networks for their own purposes. For details, please contact the operators of the social networks directly, for example by reviewing their privacy policies listed below.
Your Rights
You have the right at any time to obtain, free of charge, information about the origin, recipients, and purpose of your stored personal data. You also have the right to object, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. You may also request the correction, blocking, deletion, and, under certain circumstances, restriction of the processing of your personal data.
Applications via Social Media
If you contact us via social media platforms in connection with job applications, we process your information for the purpose of carrying out the application process. Please also note our privacy information for applicants. We ask that you avoid submitting applications through social media channels whenever possible and instead use the application channels provided for this purpose.
Photo and Video Recordings
If we wish to use photo or video recordings of identifiable persons for publication on our website, on social media, or in other external communication channels, this will generally only take place after prior information has been provided and on the basis of voluntary consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Consent is voluntary and may be revoked at any time with effect for the future. Refusing or revoking consent will have no negative consequences. In the event of revocation, the relevant recordings will no longer be used for future publications, unless compelling legitimate grounds or statutory retention obligations prevent this. Publications that have already taken place, in particular in printed media or content redistributed by third parties, may in some circumstances not be fully withdrawn.
