ONE EYE ON NATURE, ONE ON ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY.

Sustainability at PACKNERS

You have already read on countless other websites that entrepreneurial activity must also meet the requirements of sustainability and corporate social responsibility. We will therefore spare you further explanations at this point.

However, this does not mean that we are indifferent to this issue—quite the contrary. In our overall assessment, it is important to us that, in addition to all efforts to achieve energy-efficient production and correct behavior, economic efficiency is always kept in mind. A future-proof company ensures a livelihood for people and their families. That’s how it all adds up for us.

The likelihood that we will make significant technical improvements in the foreseeable future is low.

This isn’t about a lack of commitment, but rather the fact that we recently made extensive investments in state-of-the-art machinery and equipment with the commissioning of our new plant in Emsbüren. This ensures energy-efficient operations, which naturally also contribute to our sustainability efforts. Further improvements are by no means ruled out.

Solar energy.

Over 5,600 PV modules cover the majority of our roof spaces—some 30,000 m² in total—delivering an impressive peak output of 2.3 MWp. To put it another way: Over a 12-month period in 2024 and 2025, the system could have supplied more than 580 average households with renewable energy.

That said, we much prefer to use our solar power for our production and office areas—as well as, of course, for the charging infrastructure of our electric vehicle fleet. Any additional energy needs are covered by purchasing certified green electricity.

Paper recycling loop

We’re quite picky—or better said, demanding —about who receives our production paper and cardboard waste. Here’s how it works: The compressed bales from our baling press are returned to our paper supplier, who in turn provides us with recycled paper for our corrugated board production.

So that you believe we are serious.

The famous footprint: Since 2020, we have been having our CO²e footprint calculated by ClimatePartner in order to better identify potential savings and implement targeted measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The latest reports (Corporate Carbon Footprint CCF) are available in the download area.

EcoVadis

In February 2025, we received a “Committed” rating in our first ESG assessment by EcoVadis. This certifies that we are already on the right track with the implementation of many measures, but that we need to be more detailed in our documentation. (Overall rating 57/100 points, percentile rank 58). The next assessment is currently being prepared.

In addition, we have decided to present our sustainability profile transparently via the IntegrityNext platform. This gives us another opportunity to disclose our activities in a structured manner and make them comparable externally. DIN EN ISO 14001 Environmental management

At the same time, we are currently undergoing the certification process in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001. The aim is to formally establish our environmental management system, continuously develop it further, and permanently integrate the relevant environmental aspects into our business processes.

Corrugated cardboard—an incredibly sustainable material by nature.

We quickly become enthusiastic when it comes to our material, corrugated cardboard. If you would like to form your own opinion, we recommend visiting the (German) website of the Association of the Corrugated Cardboard Industry.
